True To The Game
There once was a gentleman, Walter “Sally” Thomas his name,
A helper, a trainer, devoted to the game.
Though he never played beneath the bright lights,
His heart beat for football on endless nights.
With a towel in hand and care in his stride,
He ran to the field, standing by every side.
Tying laces, filling bottles, easing the strain,
Through sunshine, through thunder, through pouring rain.
But Sally’s true admiration would grow,
For Coach Frankie Collins, whose patience would show.
“Frankie,” he’d say, “your calm is a gift,
You guide with such grace, and spirits you lift.”
Sally watched Coach Collins in moments so tense,
Teaching his players with wisdom immense.
No shouting, no anger, just steady resolve,
A puzzle of pressure Coach Collins could solve.
There were others as well whom Sally loved,
Like James Jackson, and many others whose brilliance soared.
And every young player, with stars in their eyes,
Sally believed in their dreams to rise.
He wasn’t just a trainer—he was their friend,
A steadfast supporter till the game’s end.
He saw football as family, a bond of the soul,
Where love for the game made every heart whole.
“Football’s not glory,” he’d often declare,
“It’s in the effort, the patience, the care.
It’s was Coach Collins guidance, and his bold call,
And the players who rise each time they fall.”
Now Sally’s remembered with smiles and cheers,
A gentleman trainer through countless years.
Though he stood in the shadows, his impact was clear—
A legend of football, whose love was sincere.
