For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
2 Timothy 4: 6-7
“A women of great courage have transitioned from this life into eternal life. Female Matriarch, a precious gem of the family has left behind a great legacy”
“A Time to be Born”
Mother Emma Berry was born March 9, 1929 to the late Eddie Roberson and Mary Powell Mickens in Delhi, Louisiana she was the oldest of six siblings.
“A Time to Live”
Later her family moved from Delhi to Lake Providence. Mother Emma was a housekeeper for Major and Donna Winters at Roberta Planting Company up to her health failing. She worked a variety of side jobs such as taking her children, grandchildren, and others to the cotton field, pick pecans, etc. She taught them to hunt, fish, cook, and clean. They called her Kitty, Ms. Kitty, gun smoking Kitty.
“A Time to be Redeemed”
She accepted Christ at a young age under the leadership of Rev. Freddie Green and she became a member of Pilgrim Rest where she faithfully served as an Usher. She was a faithful usher to the entire community, never missing a service or a funeral until her health began to fail. Emma met and fell in love with the late Charlie Berry and to this union sixteen (16) children were born. Mr. Charlie passed away at an early age leaving the last four of the sixteen children for Mother Emma to care for alone. It was a struggle. She always reminded the sixteen heads that she was the head of this family. All sixteen respected that. She had a way of pointing that one finger or saying: Alright! Alright! They knew exactly what that meant.
“A Time to Die”
On Tuesday October 1, 2019 at 6:30 pm at her home in Lake Providence, LA, God saw her heart getting weak, her breaths were getting shallower, and her steps getting shorter. He checked the heavenly roster and saw that her steps were indeed in order…her business was fixed. He then turned and whispered to his angels “bring my soldier Mother Emma Berry home and let her rest because her works down there is done. Ninety years on the battle field. Great solider with experience. She was preceded in death by her parents Eddie Roberson and Mary Powell Mickens, two sisters: Evelyn Griffin & Irene Bell, two brothers: Clarence Steele & Billy Ray Mickens and seven grandchildren.
“A Time to be Remembered”
