Bernice Darden affectionately known as “Madea”, departed this life on Tuesday morning April 28th, 2020. She was a devoted mother, loving sister, loving grandmother/great grandmother was79. She was born June 14, 1940 to the union of the late Eugene Dickerson Sr and Mamie Dixon Dickerson.
Bernice accepted Jesus Christ at an early age, at the Evening Star II under late Rev Sylvester Brown and then the late Rev F. Wilson in which she maintained her relationship with the Lord at New Light Baptist Church under leadership of Pastor James Edward Shaw. She was also a longtime and devoted member of the Star of Hope Grand Charter Order of Eastern Star.
Bernice attended G. W. Griffin High school where she graduated in 1960. After high school, she was awarded several educational accomplishments: Early Child Education certification, National Child Development Association, certification in Co-Dependency & Dysfunctional Family and Child Mental Health certification, and various other certifications and continuing education in Early Childhood education. Bernice worked with early head start kids for 33 years beginning at the Good Shepard Head Start School before retiring in 2000.
Bernice met the love of her life and on June 13, 1960, was united in holy matrimony to the late Archie Lee (Buddy) Darden and to that union, six children were born, two son and four daughters. To cherish her memories are two sons David Darden of Lake Providence & Marcus (Kassandra) Darden Fresno TX. Four daughters Jacqueline (Chester) Duncan Sherwood AR, Marilyn Darden Lake Providence, Syble Darden Beach Park IL, & Shalifia Darden of Horn Lake MS, stepdaughter Archie Fay Harvey. Two brothers LC (Alberta) Smith and Napoleon (Shannon) Dickerson and one sister Clora Dickerson. Brother-in-Law Dudley Threats Jr and Sisters-In-Laws Elizabeth James, Geneva Thompson, Alice Brown, Elsie Pittman-Shannon, Brenda Grover and Flora Dickerson.
Preceding her in death were her parents Eugene Dickerson Sr and Mamie Dickerson Rivers, husband Archie L. Darden, her siblings Eugene Dickerson Jr, Willie Dickerson, Ernest Dickerson & Nathaniel Dickerson and Sisters Rebecca Porter, Lillie Mae Derrington, Ruthie Allen, and Verda Threats.
